When involved in an accident it is important to react appropriately. The first thing a person should do is contact 911. If there is a need for emergency medical attention, be sure to let the dispatcher know so the appropriate personnel can respond. Next, exchange information with all parties involved, even those bystanders who witnessed the incident. Also, take down the incident report number that the police officers have assigned to the accident. Take pictures of all the damage caused to each vehicle and injuries sustained by those involved.

If you are injured, it is important to seek medical attention right away. Not all injuries manifest themselves immediately but nevertheless they may have a lasting effect. Your health is your wealth. The most important aspect of a personal injury case it that the injured party is receiving the care that they need. Proper care and determination of injuries are very important. Once care has been received, and the extent of injury can be reasonably determined, negotiations with the responsible party or their representatives will ensue.

If no agreement can be made regarding damages resulting from the injuries, usually the next step is litigation.
